Sensex Surges Over 1,000 Points, Nifty Above 14,550 Led By Banking Shares

The S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 indexes staged a gap up opening in trade on Tuesday a day after the Indian equity benchmarks recorded their best performance on a budget day in over two decades after the finance minister announced a slew of measures to revive the pandemic-hit economy. The Sensex rose over 1,000 points to hit an intraday high of 49,640 and Nifty 50 index climbed 287 points or 2 per cent to hit an intraday high of 14,568.30.

As of 9:21 am, the Sensex was up 1,020 points at 49,620 and Nifty 50 index advanced 282 points to 14,563.
